This is an ongoing vanity project I'm producing in my spare time. The classic novella by Charles Dickens richly illustrated in comic book format, with the addition of Dickens as a visual narrator.
Dickens famously performed abridged versions of A Christmas Carol in theatres and town halls to audiences from 1849 onwards. And our book opens with that scenario – Dickens taking to the stage to introduce and read A Christmas Carol. He, as a character, will be seamlessly woven into the story and visuals to relay exposition, to begin new staves and to close the book – which will be filled with beautifully rendered characters and settings, tension, scares, the bleakness of Winter and the warmth of a Cratchitt family Christmas.
The architecture and fashions of London in the 1800s from the richest to the poorest have been researched to be as authentic as possible. The characters are drawn in western comic art style, and richly coloured and textured digitally to combine Victorian with modern.
I estimate the book will be 70-80 pages in length. 30 pages have already been scripted and sketched out and over 10 double page layouts have been finalised to show final intention.
